Toba ep1: RM1/day trip

“Just save RM1 per day.“ That’s what Satkuru said when JJ asked 2 years ago in May on how much he should save for this 2 day 1 night trip. If you’re wondering how on earth do RM270 (following the save-1-ringgit-per-day rule) be sufficient for our Lake Toba trip, that’s because we’re doing it the real backpacking way. Oh well, not entirely the backpacking way since we stayed at the oh-so-nice-cottage. Heehee! Barely 2 months prior to flying had only Satkuru and I searched frantically for tour agency that can bring us to our destination dirt cheap. We found few…

Conversations in departure hall

While waiting for my flight back to Malaysia at the departure hall, I couldn’t help but overhear conversation by my fellow Malaysians sitting behind me. 3 young couples of early twenties were asking each other how much they have left from the trip and one by one they ‘announced’ out the amount. After they summed out the amount, one went to the money changer and asked for the exchange rate. The guys came back and told them the rate was 305 (100.000 rupiah ~ RM30.5) and were deliberating should they change their money here or back home. After quick discussion,…

Toba ep2: Beautiful Sipiso-Piso

From the previous post – Toba ep1: RM1/day trip After asking the local on the first destination for this trip, our driver finally found the entrance of Sipiso-Piso Waterfall. The entrance fees costs 30.000 Rupiah for all 13 of us and of course we had to pay 5.000 Rupiah for car park. That wasn’t included in the van package. We quickly got off the van and there it is, the stunning, long and narrow 120m waterfall. It’s unfortunate that it rained earlier as it made the water coming out off the cliff muddy. Nevertheless, the landscape is terrific! No wonder this…

Indon XXI: Last night in Bali

After the satisfying dish, we left the Dewi Sinta Hotel for the famous Legian Street. It was already dark when we walked out of the hotel. Thankfully we need not have to walk to somewhere else at night as our van was waiting for us right in front of the hotel. The journey to Legion Street somehow felt shorter. Probably the chat we had in the van made it shorter. I remembered us talking about the dessert we had in Yogyakarta, ronde to Yoga and Mr. Van driver. We even asked them if we could find ronde in Bali since we were sort of…

Indon XXII: Bali, for the last time

Lazily I dragged my butt out of my bed. Did a quick shower and went down to have breakfast with Sat. The hotel’s cafeteria is near the pool, so we can have a clear view of people ‘morning-sunbathing and playing in the pool while having breakfast. I felt so relaxed and reluctant at the same time knowing that I’ll be leaving this beautiful place later. And wtfish to myself for not taking picture while having breakfast! #@$(*&(*!!!! After breakfast, all of us walked to Kuta beach with the intention of taking a very nice group shoot there. Almost of us…

Indon XV: Our van driver

From Hotel Surya, our van went uphill to Jalan Raya Penelokan where we were told about the absolutely breathtaking view of Mount Batur and Danau Batur. Mr van driver pulled a stop at one of the look-out point along Jalan Raya Penelokan. Before getting down, Yoga warned us about the persistent handicraft sellers there. He told us only look and bargain for the good if we wanted to buy. Else, ignored them. So we did. We got down and walked to a very narrow lane built on a cliff, behind a handicraft shop. And my, the view is indeed beautiful. Again, every one…

Dossier on Indonesia

I stumbled upon priceless rubbishes! Months after coming back from Indonesia, I finally cleared these papers off my bag to give way for the incoming papers from my incoming trip! I took a picture, placed them into a big envelope and put them in my mementobox. I got a box full of stuffs – all collected from places I’ve been to Ah, I couldn’t be more excited on my coming trip. 4 weeks to go! Can’t wait! <3 To read about the Indonesia trip, please click the links below.

Indon XVII: Pooling in Ubud.

We gathered again at about 7-ish (can’t really remember the time) at the lobby. The guys were conspiring on jumping into the pool at night with beer by the poolside; which made me all green eyes as I wanted to join too! Hmph! But I let my pool temptation slide by doing the I-hear-no-evil-meditation-thingy. Haha. When all of us arrived, we got back into the van and off we went to the dinner place at Panorama Bar & Restaurant. We were supposedly to have dinner at Lasmi Restaurant, but the tour agent owner changed that for us. The van pulled…

Indon XIII: Conquering 1,700 metres high Mount Batur

It was pitch dark except for the yellow light coming out of the torchlights we brought along. I held Sat’s hand very tightly for fearing that I might ‘lead’ into walking the wrong path and got separated from the group. The first few hundred kilometers were easy breezy walk on flat ground of tiny sandy ash dusts. I shone my torchlight to the side to see what was on the side of the path we walked – and very much to my surprise, there are vegetation like onions, potatoes, lettuces, chilies. I even saw snails! Haha. Didn’t know that the…

Indon XIV: Good Morning Kintamani!

We were so high up in the Mount Batur for sunrise yet I don’t remember seeing one. I must have seen it without registering the moment in my head! Hmm. Kinda wasted. Should I climb up again in future? – Let me have a thought about it first. Haha. At the top of Mount Batur, I remembered peeking at my watch to see what time it was and how long we took to conquer this mountain. Unfortunately I can’t remember the exact time but it was somehow around 7-ish in the morning. Everyone was in good spirit – there weren’t a…
