Deliciously Me

Putting the 'licious' in everything

Birthdays!

Posted Thursday, May 6th, 2010

A month ago, Sat came back and we went out celebrating his birthday on the day he born! Haha.

The day started out with him picking me out from my house and headed over to cinema to catch a movie. We don’t have the privilege of doing so daily or weekly like other couples since we’re in LDR so to watch movie on his birthday is not a norm. Lol. After that I forced Sat to drive all the way up to Batu Ferringhi, and only instructed him to search for parking lot when I saw the signboard since I don’t really know the place. I only read the review on the restaurant few days before and I forgot to get the GPS coordinates to punch in his iPhone like what he did to me on my birthday two years ago. Haha.

We were greeted upon walking in and were asked if we’ve made reservation (which I replied No) and again asked if we would prefer to sit inside or outside.

Since the day looked lovely (at 6 something in the afternoon), I chose the garden and were led to a table near the artificial waterfall. The waitress came back with menu and then left – giving us time to look at their menu. I flipped around, and couldn’t decide on what to order.

Sat then suggested to try their sets. Since the celebration is for his birthday, I let him decides. The waitress came back to us and Sat did all the ordering while I was busy snapping around with my Olympus miu! Hoho

The drinks came, followed by a soup. Check out my glass. Slanting one wei! Lol!

The waitress came to us with a plate of two cheese breads saying this was on the house. Sat looked grateful for the breads and I was thinking they gave us that maybe because we ordered one of the most expensive sets. Haha.

Then the main course came. The portion is BIG! Both of us looked at it and wondered if we could finish the whole meal.

A closer look at the scallops. Yums!

By the time we finished the whole dish, it was getting dark and the yellow warm lights were on, making the entire place even more romantic. Each and every table was lightened up by a small transparent lamp.

If you’re wondering where we went, this romantic restaurant is the Ferringhi Garden Restaurant.

Today’s my mum’s big day! We went out yesterday to have pre-birthday dinner at Victoria Station. We haven’t been there for quite some time (I think more than 6-7 years d) and since we always go there for special occasions in past, we thought why not VS?

When we reached the restaurant, we were greeted warmly – just like the olden days and were brought to our ‘usual’ seats in the train coaches. Normally we would opt for the train head, but that compartment was full that we have no choice but to sit at the other coach. Then the lady passed us menu. I noticed that they have changed the menu cover and also renamed their dishes – if I’m not mistaken.

They were playing oldies while made me sang along ‘quite’ loud. Even my parents were humming to the tunes. Haha.

The lady captain came and took our order. Then I realised she only gave one menu. When I asked her for another one since there are 6 of us – she gave me this reasoning : “Oh, we only give one drink menu per table.”

-.-”"”

So I said to her, “Since there aren’t much people taking order now, why not you give us another one?”

But she just repeated our order and then went off, giving us extra time to look at the drink menu. She then came back to get our order and soon the first dish came – Mexican Nachos.

Seriously, I regretted ordering this. Even Chillis’ nachos are nicer and the best thing is they’re REFILLABLE! But I didn’t expect much on the refilling part since VS supposed to be you know, fine dining restaurant.

Then one of the waiters came and put down 3 breads when they were 6 of us.

Feeling weird, mum highlighted this and we asked the lady captain about this. She hesitatingly replied, “Erm.. because you only order 3 main courses, that’s why there’s only 3 breads.”

Then dad asked her to give extra 3 breads.

She clarified that the extra breads will be charged; which dad nodded in acknowledgment.

I vaguely remembered about them giving us a bread each in the past, like what mum thought earlier. To sort of pacify everyone, I told mum “Because the economy merosot d, that’s why bread also give 3 only.” Then everyone laughed.

We didn’t wait long for the main dishes. Dad ordered something about the Mermaid and Dragon – which are actually the seafood platters. The moment the dishes were placed on the table, mum immediately took her fork and wanted to stab into the lobster; but I stopped her because I need to take pictures of the food. Which I took quite hastily as I was given only 1 second to snap. T_T

After that everyone poked in and were disappointed to know there weren’t much meat in it. And it wasn’t that fresh too. Compared to the one I had with Sat at the Ferringhi Garden Restaurant, this one lose kao kao. However, their fish fillet is good! Especially with the sauce over it. Yum yum!

I am the one suggested for the lamb cutlet, supported by my sis. I thought why not lamb since we couldn’t try steak – something what VS is famous for and that’s why I don’t really feel like going there since we couldn’t eat what the restaurant is famous for. However, they didn’t really enjoy eating it because of the ‘nerves’. I on the other hand, took one piece and savoured the meat in my mouth. Yums!

By the time we finished eating, we weren’t really exactly that full but we weren’t keen on ordering their desserts. Bro suggested for NZN ice-cream in Sunway Carnival Mall but it started to rain when we got into the car and Dad just went to MCD drive-thru to get us ice cream. What a way to end the celebration. Haha.

There you have – 2 different birthday celebrations for the 2 people who are equally important in my heart.
